Connecting our communities
We create sustainable, long-term opportunities in our communities to support social and economic development.
Our approach
Supporting community development and investment
We partner with communities. We create local employment by working with businesses and local authorities and delivering opportunities for young people. We provide the connections communities need to thrive. We support social and environmental organisations that have a positive impact on our communities.
Supporting sustainable transport
We promote sustainable transport solutions. We aim to minimise the impact of our operations on local communities and work with partners to improve transport links and enhance safety.
Preventing modern slavery and promoting human rights
We prioritise the care of everyone that passes through our operations and that we rely on to do business. We intervene to protect human rights and prevent all forms of modern slavery.
Our business provides critical infrastructure to connect communities, supporting transport links and providing fuel for energy generation. We provide employment opportunities in the communities where we operate and work with local government to support the development of skills to strengthen opportunities available for individuals and communities. We make active use of apprenticeships to grow capabilities within our business and to provide opportunities for young people.
We actively manage transportation to and from our operations and projects to minimise local impacts and support the development of public transport infrastructure. We have established clear standards on modern slavery that are embedded in our operational policies and communicated to our suppliers. We apply a risk-based approach to identifying and prioritising our actions.
Our commitment to supporting all the communities we operate within continues and is especially relevant given the impact of COVID-19 and our ongoing response. We are pleased to be developing a formal community strategy, aligning our purpose and values, which we will launch in 2021 and this will help us measure our impact and show how we are “supporting sustainable communities.
We make active use of apprenticeships to grow capabilities within our business and to provide opportunities for young people.
